Contents Page Final Cut

Here is the final cut of my contents page. I add some straight lines between images, which aims to stand out the columns, and it works.

Here is the image that I edit in Photoshop. I just used the "MAGNETIC LASSO TOOL" that cropped around the image, and I decide to place it in the right corner of the contents. Although, I think there is a lack that I use the same model as my double page, the clothing and hair style can stand out the pop country genre. I will improve the edge of the image further, it looks not smooth and natural enough.

Saturday 13th December 2015 Review

Here is what I have done at home by using the InDesign on my laptop. I nearly finish construct my contents, I decide to use a image to fill the black space on the right corner.

Message To Moderator Creation

Here is the message to moderator, I have been written what's new in this CMB issue as well as tell the readers what presents we offer for buying Country Music Board. The font of the signature that I have been downloaded from www.dafont.com, which is a website that provide various font for free. This is the way that I follow a real magazine convention, and I think it works well, you can recommend the article to readers from the view of editor, which creates a private talking to your readers directly.

Friday 11th December 2015 Lesson Review

I changed the position of my main image from right to left, because I found that if my main image is on the right hand side, there will leave some black space, which is not look professional, and this is the rough layout of the contents page, I will input texts by next lesson.

Here is one of the images in the contents page. I cropped it, then created "stroke" around the image; also, I added a triangle and changed a galaxy background as this implies the style of pop music, which suits the pose of the model as well.

Thursday 10th December 2015 Lesson Review

Underneath is what I have done during this lesson. I will follow my flat plan to construct my contents, also, I will find the real magazine Kerrang as an example, which has a good layout.

Image In Photoshop For Contents

Here is the image of my cover star Sherry in contents. I used "Magnetic Lasso Tool" cropped around the image first, then I found a background on Google, which is quite colourful, and I think it is relate to the pop country genre. I will test it whether it can work well with other images in InDesign.

Double Page Spread Final Cut

Here is my the final cut of my double page spread without grid.

Create Stroke (dashed line) In InDesign

Here is the method of how did I create the dashed line around the black box. The stroke option is in "Window" and you can change the colour, width, position of the dashed line. Here I filled the gaps between stoke lines with pink colour, which aims to stand out that the double page article is EXCLUSIVE.

Create Highlight Text In InDesign

I create the highlight text by using the "character"-"underline"-"underline options", you can the decide the colour and the width of your highlighter, it's quite useful that stand out the questions of my interview article, which makes the whole page more effective.

Ignore Text Wrap In InDesign

Here is the way I solved the problem of last lesson. You maintain text wrap as well as create texts above the image by clicking the text layer first, then click "object"-"Text Frame Options" and tick the "ignore text wrap" at the lower case, then the texts will appear above the image.

Friday 4th December 2015 Lesson Review

In this lesson, I add two small images into my article, which makes it more professional (try to avoid the lack of images), and it works quite well so on. However, I realized when I apply the sub-heading on my main edge, the text wrap stopped working, so I will solve this problem by next lesson.

This lesson, I create my sub-heading of my double page as well as the page number, which aims to provide more information to the audience from the title. However, I think I will move the sub-heading in a lower case, in order to make my page well planning.

In today's lesson, I apply my complete article to the double page, as well as use text wrap to make sure that my article is wrap around the images.

Create Drop Shadow In InDesign

Here is the way I create drop shadow in InDesign. I try to make my images as three-dimensional, so I create the shadow in 75%, which makes my images more effective.

Create Text Wrap In InDesign

Underneath is my double page spread with my headline + a part of my article and my main image. I use the same font as my masthead and apply them in different sizes, in order to stand out that this is the double page spread and make it attractive. I also used text wrap to make the texts wrapped around the main image, which is follow the magazine convention.

In this lesson, I start create my headline in Indesign. This software is quite similar to Photoshop as you create different layer for different components of the page.

Cover Page Final Cut

Here is my final page rough cut, I'm quite happy with what I have done now. I changed the colour of my cover line, because if my masthead and cover line are all in bold black, I think it's not really appeal to my pop country genre, so i change it into white with black edge around each letter, in order to make it attractive. I used different size of font to represent my cover line, which aims to make it interesting that depends on my target audience. I have improved my Photoshop skills during the cover page creation, and I will look through more cover pages in order to make my work professional.

Tuesday 24th November 2015 Lesson Review

In today's lesson, I complete the album cover of the exclusive sector, Lady Antebellum. And I will apply it to my cover page. This album cover gives the audience more information about what is included in my magazine as well as makes my cover busy. The background I was found from Google, which links to the style of country music - happiness and freedom.

Monday 23rd November Lesson Review

This lesson I aim to create an album cover in order to fill up the space above 'exclusive', so I used Magnetic Lasso Tool cropped around the legs, and I will complete it by next lesson.

Ripped Paper Creation In Photoshop

In today's lesson, I decide to change the background of the "CHART HEAT" into a piece of ripped paper, in order to make it attractive. So I found a image from Google, and use Magnetic Lasso Tool to crop around the edge of the paper. I order to make it appeal to my colour scheme, I change it into blue colour, which is as same as the colour of skyline, which creates the house style of my magazine. I also create shadow around it by adding effects. Therefore, the chart heat can stand out more.

Thursday 19th November 2015 Lesson Review

In today's lesson, I nearly finish my cover page, I'm quite happy with what I've done now. I think I will create a sub-headline, add another image (an album cover ) above the "EXCLUSIVE" and add effects on the chart heat in order to make the whole page more attractive.

Create An Edge Around Image With Colour

I create an orange edge around these three images this lesson. I used the effect-stroke in Photoshop, which is able to choose the colour and size of the edge. This is quite easy and simple, and these images can stand out now, which aims to help me attract my target audience. There I also use more than one character in my cover page, which is follow the convention of music magazine, in order to make my magazine professional.

Photoshop Image Experimentation

This image was I took recently, which is one of the images of my cover page. Here I find a new tool in Photoshop, which can change lighting, it's quite easy and effective. The tool is in the"Adjustment"-"curve", and you can just move the curve slightly to change the lighting of the image.

Tuesday 17th November 2015 Lesson Review

In today's lesson, I cropped another image in photoshop, which uses the method as same as what I have done in my main cover page. I decide to put this image in the corner as what Kerrang did. I will create a blue/brick red edge around this model, in order to stand it out.

Monday 16th November 2015 Lesson Review

This lesson I used LASSO tools to crop my image first, then I refine the edge of the image, but the problem is if you refine the edge too much, it becomes unnatural. So I used the CLONE STAMP tools that define samples, which improves the edges and make the whole image effectively. I also used "Adjustment"-"Curves" to change the lighting slightly, which makes the image more vibrant. it's a easy and useful tool.

Here is my final magazine cover page mock up. I used shape tool and text tool in Photoshop to plan the information and artists in the cover. I will continue thinking and improving it.

Thursday 12th November Lesson Review

This lesson I still work on create boxes and complete the information of my cover page. I changed my colour scheme, I decided to used pink and blue that represent female and male audience, in order to achieve unisex of my magazine. However, pink can't work well with the light yellow background, it isn't attractive, so I decided to change it into brick red. And I will keep trying to find a more effective background than light yellow.

Friday 6th November 2015 Lesson Review

Here is my cover page Mock Up in Photoshop, I aim to add texts on it first, and the pictures will be uploaded later. This lesson I created the skyline and the artists of my magazine. However, I think the colour of the skyline is not really attractive, so I decide to change it into blue next lesson. I also download a barcode from Google and placed that in the corner.
